A complete summary and training of the process will follow under separate letterhead.

Spaceway 3 Finally Goes Live
On Monday, March 7 2008, Hughes Network Systems said it activated its first HughesNet
consumer subscriber for broadband internet service utilizing its new Spaceway 3 satellite.
This is great news not only for Hughes Network Systems in terms of subscriber revenues, but wonderful news for new subscribers who located in rural markets who have been awaiting a solution with superior performance.
Spaceway 3 will provide service to consumers throughout the continental USA including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. This rural satellite solution which is geared toward consumers and businesses who do not have access to DSL
and Cable broadband
has all of the routing/switching
capabilities built onboard the Spaceway 3 satellite; thus, enabling the transmitted packets to skip a hop. This in essence will allow the HughesNet product to have increased performance that is robust.
The market size according to the McKenzie Group is focus on 12 million customers who will never have access to conventional broadband solutions such as DSL and Cable broadband.
The research further states that there are approximately 1 million customers that is ready to purchase the HughesNet product in 2008. All indications are that Hughes Network Systems; the leader in satellite broadband technology in the United and the world has the capacity to deliver their unique solution the underserved and unserve marketplace.
The satellite can deliver up to 10 Gigabits per second of gross capacity, which Hughes said makes it the highest traffic-carrying satellite to be brought into service in North America. Also, the next-generation, Ka-band satellite
is the first to employ on-board traffic switching and routing.
With this launch, Hughes stands at gaining a phenomenal share of this small (12 million potential subscribers), but yet lucrative market for subscribers
needing a high speed connection other than dial-up
connectivity right away.
"With this significant milestone, our Spaceway 3 satellite has officially commenced carrying revenue-bearing traffic, making Hughes a fully integrated service provider," said Pradman Kaul, president and CEO of Hughes.
Spaceway 3 was launched by Arianespace last August, and then was placed into geostationary orbit by Boeing in December, at which time Hughes assumed operational control. |
